LIB DEM CRIME SURVEY RESULTS

Two thirds of Bromley residents are afraid to go out at night according to latest figures from local Liberal Democrats campaigner Ben Abbotts' Crime Survey. Hundreds of local residents have passed on their concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour in Bromley to Ben.

Results of Ben Abbotts Crime Survey include:

• Two-thirds of local people do not feel safe going out locally at night.

• Nine out of ten people feel they don't get a fair deal from Ken Livingstone for what they pay for policing.

• Nine out of ten people also feel that more mobile CCTV cameras are needed.

• Three quarters of respondents think there should be more street wardens to tackle crime.

Official figures have also shown that crime figures have increased locally while it fell across London. Bromley borough has the second highest number of burnt out cars in London. Bromley also has some of the lowest police numbers in London.

Sir Menzies Campbell and Ben Abbotts have launched a crime survey for business this week.

Local Liberal Democrat Campaigner Ben Abbotts said:

"Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour is my top priority. Tough action is needed on crime to make sure there are no no-go areas in Bromley.

"I want to see more police on our streets, increased use of CCTV and extra street wardens. Local people should not be frightened to leave their house.

"Local residents are stunned that local Conservatives who run Bromley council have failed to back Lib Dem proposals for an increase in mobile CCTV and street wardens.

"Local people rightly take pride in our area. As Bromley's full-time MP I will champion Bromley's need to get more police and get the tough action we need to clampdown on crime.

"I will be meeting Inspector Andy Johnstone tomorrow to discuss the results of the survey and crime initiatives in the area."
